What an AI assistant can do on a phone call.
Updated August 23, 2026
Search for a phone call with AI and you will mostly find the inverse of this page: products that let you talk to an AI on a phone line. That is a conversation partner. It is not an errand.
AI assistant phone call capabilities, here, means the other direction. You already have an assistant — Claude, Codex, Cursor, ChatGPT connectors, Gamut. What can that assistant actually do once it is on a live line with someone else?
DialMCP answers that with a hosted remote MCP server. The call uses your own SMS-verified number, discloses that it is an AI before the ask, and comes back as a transcript, recording, and structured outcome.
What “a phone call with AI” can mean
- You call an AI. A dedicated number, an in-app voice mode, or a companion that answers when you dial. Useful. Not what DialMCP does.
- An AI answers your business line. Inbound receptionists and after-hours agents. A different stack — see which voice AI APIs can call a cell phone for the PSTN vs in-app split.
- Your assistant calls someone else. One outbound, objective-driven call from a number the other person recognizes. That is DialMCP.
Capabilities on the line
Once your client is connected and your number is verified, the assistant can:
-
Place one outbound call to a US or Canadian number via
place_call, with a concrete objective you supplied. - Present your caller ID. The callee sees the mobile number you verified by SMS — not a pool, not a spoof — and can call a real person back.
- Disclose first. The first words to any human are that it is an AI assistant, who it is calling for, and that the call is recorded. That is enforced server-side and checked against the transcript after the call.
- Wait on hold and navigate a phone tree. It stays on the line, presses menu options when needed, and continues toward the stated objective.
- Talk to a human about a short, factual request: confirm or move an appointment, check hours or order status, change a reservation, ask a landlord or insurer a specific status question.
- Stick to facts you provided. It is instructed not to invent prices, names, or details. If it does not know, it says so and offers a follow-up.
-
Stop cleanly. If the callee objects to an AI or to recording, it
apologizes and hangs up. If a mailbox greeting answers, it hangs up without leaving
voicemail. You can also cut the call with
end_call. -

get_callreturnsachieved,partially_achieved, ornot_achieved, plus a summary, commitments, suggested follow-ups, a turn-by-turn transcript, and a signed recording link.
What it will not do
These are not preferences. They are server-side limits — see Safety — and the model cannot switch them off.
- Skip or rewrite the AI / recording disclosure
- Spoof, rotate, or hide caller ID
- Leave a voicemail
- Call outside 8:00–21:00 in the destination’s local time
- Dial emergency services, premium-rate lines, or high-fraud ranges
- Run telemarketing, cold outreach, surveys, lead generation, debt collection, political outreach, or robocalls
- Place more than 1 call at a time, 3 per hour, 10 per day, or 2 per day to the same number
- Run longer than 10 minutes (6-minute default)
- Call a number on the platform-wide opt-out list
Anyone can add a number to that list, no account needed, at mcp.dialmcp.com/opt-out.
What you need, and what you get back
You need an MCP-capable client, a US or Canadian mobile you can verify by SMS, a
destination in the US or Canada, and a clear objective. You must be 18 or older. No
API key for the direct remote connection —
https://mcp.dialmcp.com/mcp — or use
dialmcp-connector for stdio-only clients.
You get the structured resolution, the transcript, and the recording. That is the whole loop. There is no separate phone app to keep open while the call runs. Free during launch.
